It's been a week, i don't know how to reconcile that my mom is dead, that she's really truely dead.. Her body is in a small black box now, pulverized ashes and bone, and I can't quite make peace with it... I fucking hate this. |

| in which our hero goes on and on and on and doubts anyone will read the whole thing |
[May. 5th, 2009|12:19 pm] |
I've come to a conclusion....
J. J. Abrahms is a fucking genius...
Bare with me now, I've not seen Cloverfield, Fringe or Alias, I thought Mission Impossible 3 was in no way supperior to the second which was in no way supperior to the first... I am, however, a Lost fan.. Yes, it has problems, but I still find it compelling..
I'm basing my statement, that Mssr. Abrahms is possessing of a beautiful mind, if you will, entirely on Star Trek.
It should come to noone's supprise that I am a big ol' nerd, and a part of that is a longstanding and abiding love of Star Trek.. I wasn' alive for the original series, and I caught onto Next Gen. near the end, my dad was a fan of both in their time, but I was 7 when Next Gen first aired, by the time I was 12-13, into the show's later years, I caught on.. Lucky for me this is about the same time of my first true Star Trek passion, Deep Space 9... I don't know why Deep Space Nine was the one that really piqued my interest and kicked off my intense Trek love, but it did, and as a result, throughout my teenage years, I watched every episode of DS9 and eventually Next Gen.. While I was in High School, my father eventually ammased a collection of every Trek movie on VHS, we watched them, many times (I proudly state that we watched Wrath of Khan when it was on cable the other day), we went to the theaters to see the films as they came out durring those years... When I was about 19-20 for christmas my mother, who is not a trekkie (and yes, I prefer the tradtional trekkie to the douchey trekker) gave my a Star Trek encyclopedia, all the notable people, places, things and episodes involved in all Trek up to that point. I was unable to watch Voyager or Enterprise when they first aired, as Youngstown has a shitty history with local UPN channels, and I spent alot of those years cableless, and I'll admit to what little Voyager I was able to see wasn't the best Trek ever, and I didn't seek it out much.. However, durring my twenties, with the advent of the DVR, one of the first uses we put the machine to was to seek out all Trek episodes, of every series, durring these past nine years, I've seen all Next Gen and DS9 again, as well as Voyager and Enterprise, every episode.. I've seen some of Orignal series, and as much as I love that cast, that crew from the movies, I find it difficult to watch those dated episodes...
I think I am a quindisential Second Gen Trek fan, my dad was their for the original, and I caught on when it was more sleek, more polished...
My nerd-ego sufficiantly puffed up, onto the subject at hand, this new thing coming out on the movie screens which may or may not be Star Trek.
I'm not sure about the movie, I don't know what to expect.. But I do think it was approached and handled extremely well by the people who made it.. They made a comic book movie.
Think about it, they've got an origin story about a group of heroes that are enough part of pop culture that everyone is sort of aware of them, but still have a fairly small core group of very devoted fans! It's exactly the same way Hollywood approaches a comic book movie, and say what you will about the quality of those films, you cannot deny that they are hits.. More then they are misses, these comic book films are raking in the money, hand over fist...
As a Star Trek fan, I watch the trailers for the film, and I look for the Star Trek, I look for the things that make me think this is a Star Trek movie, and I'll be honest, I don't see them.. I see X-Men meets Mission Impossible in space.. And that's why the movie's gonna be a success.. Not because it's Star Trek, the fact that it's a Star Trek movie is secondary to why this movie will be successful.. The movie will work because it's new, exactly like a comic book movie does, Spiderman attracted non-Spidey fans (myself included) not because it was Spiderman, but because it was something that people were vaugly familiar with, but bigger, and newer, and without needing 50 years of comic cannon knowledge to get behind.. This movie has that, you don't need to have ever seen an episode of the Orignal Series to get into this movie, and to understand it from the begining, all the trailers are making it appear bigger and better then you've ever seen Trek before, they've hit all the right marketing points to make this a success.
Now, don't get me wrong, I think the movie will be a hit, but will it be good, I don't know.. It'll be good enough to be a hit, but will it hold up to my scrutiny, the love of a Trek fan.. I wanna like it, I'm going in prepared to like it but will there be enough Star Trek? Enough connection to episodes and to movies to things that we as fans know and love to make it Star Trek? My guess is yes, that's the easy part.. All those things will be there, just like they are in X-Men.. And maybe, just maybe, they'll hit enough of those things to even make it feel like Star Trek, and trekkies know what I'm talking about.. Hell, fans should know what I'm talking about.. Medium, be it books, comics, shows, movies, they have a feel to them.. So you watch something like Harry Potter, and you want it to give you the same feeling the books did.. I'm most afraid this movie is going to lose that feeling.. That Star Trek feeling that almost made me tear up durring the orchestreal themes to DS9 and Voyager, that proud feeling that we as human beings can eventually move past our wars and poverty and cruelness and embrace technoledgy, use it to our advantage and seek exploration into the stars.. Yeah, I know, my uber-nerd is showing, but that's what Trek is about, my friends. Seacrest OUT! |

| Writer's Block: Witness Protection Name Change |
[Apr. 19th, 2009|03:33 pm] |
You don't get to pick your own name, duh! The witness protection program provides you with an identity to assume... However, should I get the oppertunity to do what is proposed here, I would choose to be Glom Bandersnatch.
Glom Bandersnatch, you see, is from an obscure european nation and has an indistinguishable accent, only ever claiming to be european, he wears silver jumpsuits as leasure ware, and lederhosen for his professional work as manager and mascot of Der Husen, a resturaunt of questionable quality specializing in nortern central european cuisine. As I am single, Glom is a bachelous, a man about town, always on the prowel for a new discoteque...
Oh, and his accent is hillarious. |

| Writer's Block: Looking Back |
[Apr. 14th, 2009|10:43 pm] |
My livejournal is a little over seven years old.
Seven fucking years of my life sporadically chronicaled for the masses.
And by masses I mean like five people...
Anywho... First post was about how shitty my life was and wootwoot I got a livejournal.
That was when I lived at the tray.. early in the tray days.. Perhaps even before Mehna, but I'm not sure, I don't remember 100%.. The two things probably coincided around the same few month period..
Those were good times.. From reading the first few months of my journal, I think the misery and the joy came through.. I was having a great time, there in my early 20's.. But I was also doing shitty work in a shitty way, and the car broke down, and blah blah blah... OH! The car broke down well after Mehna's arrival on the scene.. So there you go.. A timeline.
You are welcome.

I found a lump on my ballz... Well, just the one.. The right one... It's not an ingrown hair, I've heard that from a few people, but it's right on the teste itself... I'm not entirely certain what my purpose for writing this is.. but I'm telling everyone to force myself to go get it looked at.. So I don't just decide to forget it... Mission accomplished I think...
To the ER tommorow... After I call the community outreach lady at St. E's who gave me her direct line...
Cancer would suck.. But it's a great angle for my Biggest Looser audition tape...
Yes, cancer of the nuts is easy to get rid of. Yes, there a good list of things it could be other then cancerous balls.... Nonetheless, you can understand my concern....
I'm rambling... I'm not sure what to say about it....................

| Jesus is the reason for the season |
[Dec. 29th, 2008|01:05 am] |
There's this guy.. His name was Jesus Christ.. He was born approximatly 2008 years and four days ago... I spend alot of time ignoring that he exists.. And openly questing weather his dad's the real deal... And then once a year, generally within the month of December.. I honor him.. I put up scenery depicting his birth, I sing songs of his glory and magnificence.. I actually have moments when I feel faith.. When I feel his presence and believe that he is the son of God.. I don't necissarily believe in all the bullshit and rederict involved with various churches and holy texts, and I still question the existence of an afterlife, but I praise God.. I praise Jesus....
I guess what I'm saying is I hope that I die in december.. Just in case. |

| Highlighting my nerdity: Obit Style |
[Dec. 18th, 2008|08:09 pm] |
So I click the little envelope that Yahoo messenger so thoughfully deposits in your icon bar to indicate you've got mail, and before making it to my mail, a useless bit of drivel in an obscure tabletop rpg yahoo group I subscribe to, the news pops up, appropriatly set to entertainment.
Majel Barret Roddenberry has died... To those of you whom I will, genereously (in the spirit of Christmas), call "uninformed", she is the widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, was involved in some small way with every Star Trek series and fostered and developed fandom in times of Star Trek draught...
I'm not a huge original series fan, so I can't speak to her preformance as Nurse Chappel, but I've seen enough Next Gen to really fucking love Lawaxona Troi, and of course she voices the computer in every series since Next Gen (and thankfully has finnished her voicework for the upcoming film)
So I got a little misty eyed.. And my sister scoffed at me.. In the spirit of holiday generosity, she's totally not a bitch. |

From student loan debt! Not racial intollerance.. If this current election has tought us anything, it's that racial intollerance is alive and well.. But I'm not here to talk election or race issue (Obama makes my heart flutter like a schoolgirl with a crush)
I got, for the very first time in many years, a tax return today.. And that means my student loans have been paid off! And that means I can get more student loans if i'm so inclined.. And that means I can go back to college! And that means I probably won't, but it's still one less debt to worry about, el oh el...
Also, make sure you vote tommorow, and although if you care about America you should probably cast your ballot for Obama, I still encourage you to vote your own conscience, even if your wrong and feel like McCain may be a better choice
And then, just for fun this guy is good with his guitar

| I think this is progress |
[Oct. 18th, 2008|01:07 pm] |
I'm not depressed!!!
Relationship shit not going my way and I'm not depressed!!!
I'm full of rage!!!
My reason, I'm fucking awesome.. Fuck you Ceshie, fuck you Mehna, fuck you Tricia, fuck you the rest, I fell for you and that's my fault, but I see now that your rejection of me isn't cause of all the reasons I've blamed it in the past.. (for the record, to those of you who'll read this, mehna, ceshie, I'm just ranting.. There are truely no hard feelings over the shit that happened fucking YEARS ago, but I feel liberated and thrilled and so full of rage!) You had your reasons, and whatever they were, it's not cause I'm useless, unloveable or a piece of shit.. I'm incredible, smart, funny, interesting, fun to be around.. I've got alot to fucking offer...
The reasons surrond my current rage are both long and may cause you to think less or someone I think very highly of.. But the rage is her fault in more then one way.. Six months ago, I may have had right to be angry, but instead I'd be blaming myself, I'd cry and be depressed and ask over and over why it never works out... Today, anger, rage, and it's because of her that I see myself differently... She does love me, she might be a selfish bitch, but I know I can be loved because of her, and I will always thank her for that...
I know my problems, I know how to correct them, and it's gonna be hard to put myself out there, meet new people and *gasp* just ask a fucking woman out already, so I might not be there yet, but forward progression is a good thing... |

| I enjoy shows about people who can do outstanding things.. Remember 4400? That was another good one |
[Oct. 9th, 2008|10:33 am] |
It was about two weeks ago the mehnaravenstar asked me about Heroes, and I'd intended to write a post on the subject, as well as a number of other returning shows, but I put it off and I put it off.. Sorry Mehna, I'm gonna make it up to you.
Heroes, at it's genesis, was a brilliant television show... Straight up superhero comic book goodness, with an intricatly woven plot, interesting charecters and a slow building story that really paid off in season one... Season two kinda sucked.. Partly it was the writers strike, partly it was the show trying to copycat the pacing of it's first season with a slow build, something that dosn't work as well now that the charecters have been established.. Whatever the case, season two left a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth... In the last few months, the commercials for season three have almost been enough to make me forget season two existed... And now that it's here I am not dissapointed.. Starting out with a bang, Season three is what season two should have been.. Fast paced, exciting, jumping immediatly into the heart of the story, and while I'm sure there are secrets and twists yet to be revieled I'm not sitting here three episodes in going "What's the hell's going on?" I'm not sure how important Mohinder's storyline is, which is a shame as I always liked his charecter, and even though I was vocally encouraging him to shoot some powers into his arm I think the important "normal guy" role was filled admirably by his charecer. Oh, and they can kill off his useless mexican friend anytime now.. I love what we're learning about Sylar.. Not necissarily that he's a Pettrelli, but that his evil comes from his power, not from him.. Extremely interesting and I can't wait to find out how Peter handles that... One quick critism.. I hate Peter Pettrelli.. Don't get me wrong, I like the ROLL he plays, the guy with all the powers, the strongest and most powerful hero of all and the perfect counterpart to Sylar.. but is it just me or is he a fucking retard? You can fly, teleport and go invisable, but as soon as theirs trouble he's huffing it on foot, running away? Seriously? And how is future Peter killed with a few bullets from future Claire? Can't he heal like she does? Or is this a mystery the show's cultivating, do his powers fade away if not exposed to their source on a regular basis? A quick three minute bit where he tries to go invisible but can't cause he hasn't seen Claude in awhile (and I want my Christopher Eccleston to retrun, big time) explains alot of Peter's retardness away... Second criticism, Claire's immortal? Okay, great.. Then how in the fuck does "save the cheerleader, save the world" way back in season one, make any sense anymore.. Cheerleaders saved no matter what.. And here we are just two seasons later and Sylar gets her power anyway? Seams to me that the writers, in an attempt to make this season more enjoyable then the last (and they are succeeding admirably) they've made alot of season one moot...
I don't want to write about other shows after that.. This post stands.

[Sep. 24th, 2008|02:19 am] |
I make it a point of checking out the new shows on HBO.. almost always, I'll tune in to see what they've got going on...
Usually they hit, Rome, Deadwood, Soppranos, Six Feet Under, Flight of the Conchords, Curb your Enthusiasm, Entourage, Extras... These are great effing shows, evey one of them.. I've never seen the Wire or Oz, but I understand they are good as well.. Part of me is interested in Oz, but I'm cop-show overloaded, and the Wire has no appeal for me...
So now HBO's got a new batch of original programing, and I'm ready to tune in.
I'm three episodes into True Blood.. The idea behind the series is that vampires are out of the coffen thanks to a new synthetic japanese blood, and are even lobbying for equal rights.. It's got all the right components for a really excellant world, but they set the show in rural louisianna, and focus on charecters I don't really care about.. I'm three episodes in, and I havn't decided if I like it yet.. Seams to me the show would be better served if done in a grander scale... It's apparently based on a series of books, and whereas I do not know the books or where they will eventually take the story, I find myself comparing the show to the Anita Blake series. Laurell K. Hamilton paints a similar world, but done in grander scale.. Set in a big city, Anita Blake is a necromancer and licensed vampire hunter.. Though vampires are legal citizens, their are those who still cause trouble, and in steps Anita.. High adventure is what Anita Blake is about, and this True Blood is just moving too slow, wearing far too convoluted a tale then I want my vampire stories to be..
Entourage is back and something just dosn't feel right about it.. I havn't put my finger on it, but I can tell you this, it's not Jeremy Piven, he's totally fucking on with Ari Gold.
They've got a new animated show, The Life and Times of Tim, or something like that, it hasn't aired yet, but I'll be tuning in. Watched some "Making of" on demand and liked what I saw..
And I think I'm most looking forward to Little Brittain USA, premering this sunday on HBO... Last summer I spent a weekend with my buddy Shawn at a gay nudist camp ground.. Now I'm neither gay nor a nudist, but it was camping and it was an opertunity to get away.. I spent the weekend drinking, smoking and drawing.. At one point, while I sketched by tiki-light I hear some voices coming from a nearby trailer.. there was a large gathering of queers watching something funny.. I listened in, I laughed, and while I never caught the name of the show, I was able to get a few key phrases to google when I got home... I get home, I google something like "only gay in the villiage" and soon discover that I had been listening to Little Brittain. I'm a bit of a britcom fan, and an even bigger fan of sketch comedy, so I found some illegal copies and settled in for a good viewing. The show is funny. In fact it's VERY funny.. The concept of the show was that it's basically a look into the lives of various brittish peoples, but as such, the charecters are repeated quite often.. While not every charecter appears in every episode, by the time I got to the third and forth series, certain charecters had lost their appeal, while others had remained fantastically hillarious...
I've followed Little Brittain USA for awhile, googling it, watching it on IMDB, watching making-of shit on demand, really looking forward to it.. Turns out they're taking many of those brittish charecters and, somehow, transplanting them in America, as well as creating a number of brand new american charecters... Because it's a brand new audience, it's not important weather these transplants actually fit in with the charecters.. For example, in the brittish version of the show there is a charecter called Sabastian (a charecter, I'd like to point out, I never tired of) who was assistant to the Prime Minister.. The twist, he was absoulty head of heals in stereotypical queer love with the Prime Ministe, who seamed largly unaware of it. In the American version, it seams, Sabastian IS the Prime Minister, absolutly head over heals in love with the President of the United States of America. I havn't seen a sketch featuring the reimagined Sabastian, only some making of footage, so I'm not so sure it'll work... On the other hand, in the case of Andy and Lou, a pair of brittish friends (and another pair of charecters that I never tired of, they're actually my favorite) are seen to be checking into a hotel in the first series, on a trip to America.. Would fit in well with established Little Brittain cannon... Meinwhile I saw a sketh featuring a charecter, Carol Beers, a charecter that I NEVER liked in the first place.. In the original series she was portrayed as an innept secretary, and in the USA has been retooled into a rude secretary, still maintaining the Carol Beers manarisms and catch phrases, and she has NEVER BEEN FUNNIER.
Otherwise, HBO has excersised their option on George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire.. No gaurentees on a series, but it's a step in the right direction.. Keep your fingers crossed. |

[Sep. 21st, 2008|11:59 pm] |
I look at way too much porn... I've decided that I don't need that much porn in my life.
To that end I've deleted all the sex journals and communities from my emails and my livejournal..
It's just you and me now, folks.. Better keep me entertained.. To that end I'm gonna try and blog a little more often. |
